Overview

On a brilliant spring day, 19 May 2018, the wedding of Prince Harry and Ms Meghan Markle took place in St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, England. The prince is sixth in line to the British throne after his father, HRH Prince Charles; his elder brother, HRH Prince William; and his nephews and niece, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Ms Markle, an American by birth, is a former actress. Invited guests included 600 seated in the chapel and approximately 2,000 locals, school children and charity workers who were invited into the castle grounds. The televised wedding was viewed by an estimated 29 million people around the world.

The wedding ceremony was conducted by the Right Reverend David Conner, Dean of Windsor, while the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, officiated. The Most Reverend Bishop Michael Curry, bishop and primate of the Episcopal Church in USA, gave the address and the Kingdom Choir performed a moving rendition of Ben E King’s “Stand by Me”. The bride wore an elegant dress designed by Clare Waight Keller, the British artistic director of the French fashion house Givenchy. Formerly HRH Prince Henry of Wales, the groom was given the title HRH The Duke of Sussex shortly before the ceremony.

On her marriage, Meghan Markle became HRH The Duchess of Sussex.
