Set of Gummed Norfolk Island Fishing stamps
This set of stamps presents the two stamps from the Norfolk Island Fishing stamp issue.
The waters around Norfolk Island teem with a variety of temperate and tropical marine life, including fine eating fish such as Yellowtail Kingfish, Redthroat Emperor, Silver Trevally, Coral Rockcod and others. The Norfolk Marine Park was established in 2012 to protect the region’s outstanding natural and cultural values. It comprises 188,444 square kilometres and within the park, immediately surrounding the island, is a Special Purpose Zone in which sustainable fishing activities are permitted. The Norfolk Island Inshore Fishery includes shelf waters surrounding the island. Fishing is non-commercial and restricted to recreational and charter-based fishing by residents and visitors. All fish are caught by line, either from the shore or from boats.
The stamps feature two commonly fished species: the Redthroat Emperor (Lethrinus miniatus), shown being caught from a boat, and the Yellowtail Kingfish (Seriola lalandi), which can be caught from the rocky shoreline.
